Vision Statement :

The South Asia University Alumni Association is a dynamic organization that is the representative voice for all graduates working in partnership with the University to realize its mission. Our global commitment is to enhance the growth of the University by providing a wide range of resources and opportunities. The Alumni Association fosters a legacy for all future generations of South Asia University students

Alumni Board of Directors :

The Alumni Board of Directors is the governing body of the Alumni Association. The current Board officers are:

Alumni—Fast Facts

I f you are like most alumni, you came to South Asia University only for the excellent education and the unmatched reputation. But more than that you came here because you knew it was the place where you could build your future and you would receive an empowering education that would change your life.

It is for those same reasons that most SAU alumni remain active at the University.

Did you know that as an alumnus of SAU you:

  • Can have temporary access to the university computer network as long as you acquire a new login and password (yours free for the asking - contact the Help Desk at: helpdesk@sauniv.com
  • Can use the Career Center to attend workshops, have letters of reference kept on file for five years, have career testing, access job postings
  • Can use your alumni ID card to check-out books from the library
  • Can sign a card to waive the application fee to a student applying for undergraduate admission.
  • Can continue to come to the free campus athletic events
  • Can join the on-line alumni discussion group (just send an email and we'll send you your ID and password)
  • Can attend programs and earn continuing education units
  • Can request an official copy of your transcript from the Office of the Registrar (nominal fee for this)
  • Will have many social and networking opportunities: reunion, summer beach bash, bus trips etc
  • Will have many volunteer opportunities to give back to your alma mater: orientation, commencement, admissions events, career mentoring and presentations
  • Could be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame
  • Could win the Alumni Service Award for being actively involved in the Alumni Association
  • Can join the Alumni Board, an existing chapter or club, or start a new chapter or club

With all these benefits, why not become involved in the Alumni Association. As an alumnus, you can remain active in a number of ways:

  • Act as career mentor. Participate in all social events.
  • Use the department as a source even after graduation. Ensure your legacy continues through financial support.
  • Perpetuate the experience you had by sending students you know to SAU.
  • Support campus activities, which in turn will enrich your life.
  • Take advantage of opportunities to participate in various advisory boards and councils.
  • Give your input to initiatives such as the visioning process.
  • Additionally, supporting the Annual Fund is your opportunity to make a difference and help others. Unrestricted gifts from the Annual Fund are vital to South Asia University 's ongoing strength. Your gift may buy books for the library, computers or help maintain our academic research. The Annual Fund also supports our scholarship fund and co curricular activities.

Who can become a alumni:
Any person who holds a Baccalaureate or Masters degree from SAU, or who has completed a minimum of one semester's work at SAU and is no longer enrolled, is a member of the Alumni Association. There is no membership fee to join.

Service

Alumni Service Award :

This award is presented to an alumna/alumnus who has demonstrated outstanding contributions and services to South Asia University .  It is given in recognition of outstanding contributions and services to the Association.  Candidates must be active members of the Alumni Association; must show a continuing involvement in the activities of the club and/or the Association, and must be nominated for services or contributions rendered.  A person may only receive this award once. The Awards are presented annually during Reunion Weekend. Additional information regarding nomination criteria and forms follow.

Illustrious Alumni Award

The Illustrious Alumni Awards are the highest recognition granted by the South Asia University Alumni Association. All alumni of SAU, except former recipients of the Award or recipients of honorary degrees, are eligible. Each spring two to three awards, are presented at the Alumni Awards Luncheon during Reunion Weekend.
Any member of the Alumni Association may submit nominations. Those wishing to make nominations should submit complete biographical information, which includes the nominee's name, address, telephone number, and data that responds to the four primary areas of qualification:

  • Interest in South Asia university and its programs and promotion. Support may include the guidance of students to the College, involvement in volunteer programs and services of the College, and contributions to the financial resources of the College.
  • Community service and leadership that the nominee has made to his/her city, state or nation.
  • Achievements in the nominee's chosen career, profession, or other life work.
  • Any other contributions that reflect credit upon Birmingham-Southern College and the educational that it provided to the nominee.  

Exceptional Young Alumni Award

Purpose
The Exceptional Young Alumni Awards seek to recognize alumni whose achievements distinguish them from their peers in their professional and/or philanthropic careers. The Awards, which began in 2001, are presented annually at the Alumni Awards Luncheon held during Reunion Weekend. The award is fully sponsored by the America Chapter of the Association
Candidates must :

  • be nominated by a members of the alumni, faculty, or staff;
  • be alumni who are 35 years old or less and who graduated no more than 10 years ago;
  • demonstrate an outstanding record of achievement in their professional and/or philanthropic careers; and
  • demonstrate a continuing loyalty, support, and/or advocacy SAU.

Selection
Two honorees are selected each year for the Outstanding Young Alumni Awards. In exceptional instances, three honorees may be named at the selection committee's discretion.

Selection Committee
The selection committee is appointed by the president of the alumni association from members of the alumni board and/or former recipients of the Award.

Deadline for Nominations - Friday, October 6, 2006 .
Once nominated, a name will be considered for a total of two years. After that time, a nominee may be re-nominated. A committee consisting of those who have received the Illustrious Alumni Award during the preceding ten years serve on the selection committee.
